Overview
Released on 20 June 2000 through Maverick Records, White Pony is Deftones' third studio album. Recorded between August and December 1999 at The Plant Recording Studios in Sausalito and Larrabee Sound Studios in West Hollywood with producer Terry Date, it marked a defining evolution in the band's sound by incorporating elements of shoegaze, trip hop, post-rock and electronic music alongside their established alternative metal foundation. The album also marked the first full studio recording to feature Frank Delgado as an official member, while Chino Moreno contributed rhythm guitar for the first time on a Deftones album.
Supported by the singles Change (In the House of Flies) and Back to School (Mini Maggit), alongside the promotional single Digital Bath, White Pony became Deftones' commercial breakthrough, debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The album earned the band their first Grammy Award for Elite and was certified 2× Platinum by the RIAA in 2025, while its influence and critical acclaim established White Pony as one of the defining alternative metal albums of its era.
