Overview
Released on 31 October 2006 through Maverick Records, Saturday Night Wrist is Deftones' fifth studio album. Recorded between November 2004 and April 2006 across studios in Connecticut and California, it was produced by Bob Ezrin and Deftones, becoming the band's first studio album not produced by Terry Date. The record further expanded Deftones' atmospheric and experimental direction while introducing collaborations with Shaun Lopez, Serj Tankian and Annie Hardy. It also marked the band's final studio album released through Maverick Records and the final Deftones studio album released during Chi Cheng's lifetime.
Supported by the singles Hole in the Earth and Mein, Saturday Night Wrist received generally positive reviews upon release despite its notoriously difficult production. In retrospect, the album has since been reassessed by many fans as a distinctive and important entry in the band's catalogue, particularly for songs such as Cherry Waves, Beware and Xerces.
