Overview
Released on 12 November 2012 through Reprise Records, Koi No Yokan is Deftones' seventh studio album. Recorded during 2012 with producer Nick Raskulinecz, it continued the creative momentum established on Diamond Eyes, further expanding the band's balance of heaviness, atmosphere and melody. It was also the second studio album to feature Sergio Vega on bass, whose contributions became more prominent throughout the writing and recording process. Its title derives from the Japanese phrase koi no yokan, referring to the sense that two people are destined to fall in love after their first meeting.
Supported by the singles Leathers and Tempest, alongside the promotional singles Swerve City and Romantic Dreams, the album received widespread critical acclaim and debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200. Entombed, Rosemary and Tempest have since become enduring fan favourites and staples of the band's modern catalogue. Koi No Yokan also marked the end of Deftones' collaboration with Nick Raskulinecz until Private Music.
