Overview
Recorded between 2007 and 2008, Eros was intended to become Deftones' sixth studio album following Saturday Night Wrist. Produced by Terry Date, the sessions were largely completed before the project was indefinitely shelved after Chi Cheng suffered a devastating car accident in November 2008. The band subsequently shifted its focus to Diamond Eyes, while repeatedly expressing their intention to eventually release Eros in an appropriate form.
Although Eros remains officially unreleased, several songs became known through statements and live performances. Most notably, Smile was shared online by Chino Moreno in 2014 to mark the first anniversary of Chi Cheng’s death. The remaining material continues to exist in an unfinished archival state, with its final running order and release plans never formally confirmed by the band.

Notes
On June 22, 2026, unfinished Eros session files began circulating without official authorization. The eleven names documented here are working titles associated with those files. Deftones have not confirmed that they form a final tracklist, that the sequence reflects the band's intended running order, or that every recording was intended for release. The archive preserves this information as a provisional historical record, not as an official release configuration. The artwork currently displayed is based on an archangel image that appeared on the official Deftones website during the Eros era in 2008. Although closely associated with the project, there is no confirmed evidence that it was intended to serve as the album's final cover artwork.
