Overview
Released on 28 October 1997 through Maverick Records, Around the Fur is Deftones' second studio album. Recorded between April and June 1997 at Studio Litho in Seattle with producer Terry Date, it marked a significant step forward in the band's evolution while building upon the heavier foundation established on Adrenaline. The album also featured contributions from Frank Delgado on turntables and sound effects across “My Own Summer (Shove It)”, “Around the Fur”, “Dai the Flu”, “Headup” and “MX”, two years before he officially joined the band as a full-time member.
The album produced three singles: My Own Summer (Shove It), Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) and the promotional single Around the Fur. Headup featured guest vocals and guitar by Max Cavalera. Around the Fur became Deftones' first RIAA Gold-certified release before later being certified Platinum in the United States, establishing it as one of the band's defining recordings.
